10 Things You Should Know About Summerville Medical Center

#1 – Summerville Medical Center, part of Trident Health system, has undergone almost $150 million in growth and expansion over the last several years to serve the needs of the rapidly growing Lowcountry community. Summerville Medical Center completed a full remodel of all inpatient rooms and opened a state-of-the-art women’s & children’s tower. An emergency room designed strictly for pediatrics was added for your little ones. The women’s & children’s tower is a two story, 50,000-square-foot facility with 30 new inpatient beds, new labor and delivery rooms, Level II nursery rooms, operating rooms, and preoperative surgical areas. The pediatric emergency unit provides 24/7 care to children from newborn to age 17, with a separate waiting room and 10 patient beds. 

#2 – Brighton Park Emergency, a new freestanding ER, is open and serving adult and pediatric patients. The 10,800 square foot emergency room is located by the Nexton entrance off exit 199 on I-26 at 1626 N. Main Street, Summerville, SC 29483.

Brighton Park Emergency is a full-service ER complete with 11 patient rooms, imaging and lab services, as well as telemedicine services for stroke and behavioral health. It is open 24-hours a day, 7 days a week staffed by a team of board-certified emergency physicians, as well as specially trained nurses and staff.

#3 - When your child needs specialized critical care, they may be admitted to Summerville Medical Center’s pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). The six-bed PICU serves newborns to 17 years old. Pediatric nurses training in critical care watch your child around-the-clock. The doctors are board-certified pediatric intensive care physicians.

#4 – For newborns needing a higher level of care after delivery, Summerville Medical Center’s Level II Special Care Nursery is staffed by specially trained physicians and nurses prepared to care for our youngest patients.

#5 – In the summer of 2021, a state of the art Breast Center will open giving Summerville Medical Center patients’ new advances in technology and breast health. The Summerville Breast Center is designed to give patients a beautiful, peaceful, supportive setting along with the best possible quality care. 

#6 – The hospital offers a wide range of surgical procedures including orthopedics, gynecology, spine, bariatrics, reflux, general and more. Summerville Medical Center has several minimally invasive robotic surgery systems that results in smaller incisions, less need for pain medications after surgery, and faster recovery times that get patients back on their feet and back to their active lives faster. 

#7 – Board-certified colorectal surgeon Cesar Santiago, MD recently joined the Summerville Medical Center medical staff to offer comprehensive colon and rectal care in an atmosphere of dignity and respect.

#9 – In the summer of 2021, Summerville Medical Center will open an Interventional Radiology Lab. What is Interventional Radiology? In interventional radiology (also called IR), doctors not only interpret your medical images, but they also perform minimally invasive surgical procedures through small incisions in the body. Why Interventional Radiology? Interventional radiology reduces cost, recovery time, pain, and risk to patients who would otherwise need traditional open surgery. Because of this, IR has become the primary way to treat many types of conditions. The treatments IR can effectively perform are ever-changing and expanding.
