Mammogram = Breast Friend Forever! | Summerville Breast Center

Out of every 100 women who get a screening mammogram, 90 women will be told that their mammogram is normal and 10 women will be asked to return for additional screening. With additional screening, 6 women will be reassured that their mammograms are normal, 2 women will be asked to return in 6 months for a follow-up exam, and 2 women will be recommended to have a needle biopsy. Early detection is the key. A 10 minute annual mammogram saves lives and grants piece of mind. A mammogram can often detect breast cancer early, when it’s small and even before a lump can be felt. This is when it’s easiest to treat.

Women’s care has been a cornerstone of Summerville Medical Center and with the opening of the Summerville Breast Center, women will find all the care they need in one location. Private parking and aromatherapy are part of the boutique-style comprehensive Summerville Breast Center that will provide women with an intimate and welcoming experience. With an all-female staff, this new addition to Trident Health was carefully designed to offer tranquility to a women’s breast care experience. All of the senses are affected upon entering. The color choice, the scent, the furniture type and scale, the bathrooms, and the lighting have all been carefully chosen to sooth and inspire. The word “busy” seems to be the most used word in the English language these days. You know that moving from point A to point B, running errands, keeping appointments and even socializing can be a second job. At times, it can become chaotic. Two of the best solutions for a busy lifestyle are convenience and low maintenance. Summerville Breast Center offers you ease and it helps you feel good about taking care of yourself.

For women who receive an abnormal mammogram result, board-certified and fellowship-trained breast surgeon Dr. Autumn Shobe is onsite at the Breast Center to answer any and all questions that may arise. “My favorite part of my job is taking care of women who truly inspire me. They are mothers, they are daughters, they are sisters.  It is an honor to be able to hold their hand, to see them complete treatment, and then they give you a hug at the end. It’s an emotional ride for them and at times it can be emotional for the physicians as well because you’ve put a lot into treating them and they’ve trusted you. To keep that trust is a very important thing and it’s inspiring,” commented Dr. Shobe.

Summerville Breast Center offers full breast imaging services including screening and diagnostic mammography, bone density testing and more with state-of-the-art 3D mammography equipment. It joins Trident Health system's sister facilities, Trident Breast Center and Moncks Corner Medical Center, to provide comprehensive breast care and mammography for women across the Lowcountry.

According to the American Cancer Society, women between the ages of 25 and 40 should have an annual clinical breast examination. Women ages 40 and older should have the choice to start annual breast cancer screening with mammograms if they wish to do so. An ultrasound might also be recommended for women with dense breast tissue. All women should consider performing a monthly self-breast exam beginning at age 20 and become familiar with their breasts so they are better able to notice changes.

When you call to make your appointment, all of your questions will be answered and you’ll be given full instructions. The Summerville Breast Center is located right across from the Summerville Medical Center campus at 77 Springview Ln, Summerville, SC 29485. Did I mention the private parking? Yes I did.
