always glad you came….” Cotton Down South is not your typical bar. Well, it’s not even a bar but when
you walk through the door the employees all say “HELLO THERE”. Get the picture? If they know your
name, then it’s like walking into “Cheers” (NORM!) except you’d be shopping boutique home décor
items rather than ordering a beer. Cotton Down South was established in October 2017. Many hours of
travel, research, reading books, business plans, and so much more went into everything coming
together at Cotton Down South and it shows. From custom made, nap worthy, porch swings to signature
candles this enterprise is a plum.
Melinda Turner, owner of Cotton Down South, was born and raised on sweet tea and Jesus in
Summerville, SC. A few years back she sold her very successful gift basket business to raise 3 children.
Like the biblical mustard seed parable when that tiny seed is likened to faith, Melinda had a mustard

seed of faith firmly planted in her heart. With that faith and her vision, she opened Cotton Down South
and it’s been a whirlwind of blessings from day one. She has welcomed new faces each day and many
just come by to catch that fresh scent of a burning candle and to say hi to their neighbor. Melinda told
me that this past year Cotton Down South has become a big family to many who just needed to get out
and to say hello to another human being.
Cotton Down South has a daily presence on Instagram and Facebook which keeps you posted as to the
virtual auctions, weekly specials, and events. Virtual auction purchases are beautifully wrapped and left
on the very southern front porch for pick up the next day. Gift certificates can be purchased on Cotton
Down South’s website and delivered via email instantly or on a set date with your personal message to
