The Bonneau Peanut Festival

September 25 2012 - Looking for something to do this weekend Get a head start on the County Fair season and take a short drive up US 52 to Bonneau where the sleepy little town will come alive as it resurrects the Peanut Festival after a hiatus of 17 years Festivities will kick off in the town park at 600 PM on Thursday September 27 with Garbrick Amusements Inc providing an assortment of carnival rides along with a variety of games and vendors booths Many creative artisans will display their wares in an expansive Arts Crafts show Of course the primary focus will be boiled peanuts in honor of the towns agricultural heritage The Chillin Station will have its famous Hawaiian Shave Ice Caribbean Grill will offer jerk chicken and other Jamaican cuisine and many other culinary traffickers will tempt your taste buds with such traditional fair favorites as funnel cakes candied apples hot dogs hamburgers corn dogs and more The fun will continue on Friday from 600 to 1100 PM On Saturday a gala parade featuring several marching bands and conceptual floats created by local residents will initiate the acitivies at 1030 AM The Bonneau Beauty Pageant queen will be represented as will the mayor and other town dignitaries After the parade there will be a Tractor Show from 1130 AM to 600 PM A horseshow tournament will commence at 1200 noon Bluegrass and country music artists will entertain the crowd throughout the afternoon Dee Dee Cumbee and his band Thunder Alley will bring the festival to a climax with a concert from 800 PM until 1200 midnight So bring your appetite and kick up your heels at this good old-fashioned country hoedown For more information about the author Dave Schneider please visit my Google profile page
