Tis the season to be jolly and all the local municipalities have traditional events to help us get in the spirit Tuesday November 27 2012 Summerville will kick off the festivities with its Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony Music by the Summerville High School band and choral groups will begin at 600 PM and the mayor will flip the switch to light the tree at the Town Square After the tree lighting the Summerville Fire Department Summerville DREAM and the local businesses will sponsor the second Annual Summerville Snowball Drop As many as 1000 ping pong balls representing snowballs and marked with special deals offered by downtown retailers will be dropped from a fire truck ladder Call 843 871-6000 or visit wwwsummervilledreamorg if you need more information Friday November 30 2012 Sullivans Island will flip the switch on the Annual Fire Station and Rescue Department Lighting at 530 PM The celebration will include food and live music by the Thistlin Dixie bagpipes and the Sullivans Island Elementary School Chorus Of course Santa Claus will also make an appearance so make sure you are on your best behavior Saturday December 1 2012 North Charleston will host its Christmas Festival from 400 to 900 PM Childrens activities begin at 400 PM and musical performances on three different stages will begin at 500 PM At 600 PM the Christmas Parade will commence at the intersection of Montague and Mixson Avenues proceed down Montague and around Park Circle to its conclusion at Armory Park After the parade Mayor Keith Summey will flip the switch to light the citys Christmas tree located outside the front entrance of the Felix C Davis Community Center For pre-registration and general inquiries contact the North Charleston Parks Recreation Department at 843 745-1028 Charlestons Mayor Joseph P Riley Jr and Santa Claus will flip the switch to illuminate the magnificent 60-foot Tree of Lights in Marion Square in a ceremony beginning at 430 PM The Charleston Parade of Boats will begin on the Mount Pleasant side of the Cooper River at approximately 530 PM cross the river and proceed down the Charleston side of the river around The Battery into the Ashley River A spectacular fireworks show will begin at approximately 645 Times are approximate to take the effects of wind tides currents etc into account For those attending the Christmas tree lighting ceremony there should be ample time to get to the waterfront so you can enjoy both events Be sure to dress warm against the chilling coastal breezes Sunday December 2 2012 Charlestons Christmas Parade will feature bands floats marchers and performers beginning at 200 PM The route will start at the intersection of Calhoun and Meeting Streets proceed down King Street to Broad Street and ends on Lockwood Boulevard Saturday December 8 2012 The City of Folly Beach 2012 Christmas Parade begins at 100 PM After the parade the mayor will dispense monetary awards and trophies for categories such as Funky Folly Most Original Beach Theme Golf Cart and Alternative Transportation at the Folly River Park The ceremonies will conclude with the mayor flipping the switch to light the citys Christmas tree The Isle of Palms Holiday Street Festival will be held on Ocean Boulevard from 300 to 700 PM Local bands Sol Driven Train Fowlers Mustache and Scotty Frier Band will perform throughout the afternoon and carnival attractions such as a Ferris Wheel Super Slide climbing wall photo booth face painter and balloon artist will keep both young and old entertained The festivities will conclude with Mayor Dick Cronin flipping the switch to light the citys 20-foot Christmas tree Sunday December 9 2012 Historic Downtown Summerville will present its Annual Christmas Parade beginning at 200 PM Holiday-themed floats marching bands dancers local celebrities Santa Claus and his merry elves will spread holiday cheer all a
